Here, in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, we are very proud of our stunningly beautiful piece of earth we can offer our guests and call our home. Seven charming villages are situated in the valley and a part of this delightful holiday region: Berwang, Biberwier, Bichlbach, Ehrwald, Heiterwang, Lermoos and Namlos. Four imposing mountain ranges surround the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena and offer fantastic opportunities for all mountain enthusiasts. The Ammergauer Alps are situated to the north, Lechtal Alps in the west, Mieminger Kette in the south, and the Wettersteingebirge, which includes Germany's highest mountain peak, the Zugspitze, is situated to the east of our holiday region.
From the town of Ehrwald a gondola can take you up the Zugspitze mountain to enjoy the marvellous views. This region offers many spectacular activities for guests throughout the year, during each season. In winter, the seven different ski resorts of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena offer delightful skiing and snowboarding fun. No matter if you are a novice or an expert, the range of slopes ensure a fantastic day spent in the snow. Enjoy the Zugspitzplatt at close to 3,000 metres above sea-level, and ski past the Ehrwalder Alm all the way down into the valley to Berwang. The ski resorts have fantastic offers for all winter sports enthusiasts, for skiers, snowboarders, freestyle-skiers, freeriders, and even ski mountaineers. In addition to fantastic alpine skiing, our holiday region has marvellous cross-country ski tracks for all those who want to glide through the spectacular winter wonderland on cross-country skis. For a change of pace, a snow-shoe hike through the untouched snow offers a lovely alternative. Forge your own path through the powder snow, breathe in the fresh mountain air, marvel at the snow-covered forests, and be rewarded with the spectacular views of the winter landscape while enjoying the unmistakeable tranquillity of winter. Another delightful activity to be enjoyed in our romantic region during winter is a horse-drawn carriage ride.
All our guests who visit during summer are absolutely mesmerized by our deep-blue and turquoise alpine lakes. Walk up to these spectacular lakes and be amazed by the natural beauty. One of the delightful lakes of our region is the Drachensee (transl. dragon lake), which is situated below the Coburger Hut, and is very popular with photographers. The lake is siuated at 1,910 metres above sea-level and is the highest lake of the region. There are so many more exciting hikes to enjoy here, and with more than 150 different hiking routes, which range from gentle walks, entertaining themed hikes, to challenging summit ascents, every hiker can find his or her perfect tour in the mountains. The highest tour in our holiday region is the delightful, yet challenging, hike up to the Zugspitze, which is 2,962 metres above sea-level. The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is a region which also is very popular with all nature lovers. Parts of the Ehrwald basin, which used to be a moor landscape, have been environmentally protected for decades now. Many protected species are settled in the nature reserve, plants as well as animals. For all guests who enjoy a faster pace, biking, mountain biking, and e-biking allows everybody to enjoy our beautiful landscape on two wheels.
