The stunning alpine landscape of Kitzbühel, nestled between the Wilder Kaiser mountain range, the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain, and the famous Hahnenkamm, has ensured this town the fantastic reputation of a first-class alpine sports destination, and an exceptional lifestyle. Kitzbühel, the city in the mountains, together with the idyllic villages Jochberg, Aurach, and Reith offer guests a fantastic holiday destination.
As one of the most famous winter-sports towns in all of Austria, the "Gamsstadt" Kitzbühel charms guests with its romantic old-town, exclusive restaurants, lovely cafes, unique boutiques, a cinema, and a casino.
The exciting nightlife in this city is truly unique, but nothing compares to the stunning Tyrolean nature and sports activities to be enjoyed in Kitzbühel. All winter-sports play an important role in this area, and have been a part of tradition for generations. The world-cup ski race, the Hahnenkamm race, is possibly the most famous downhill ski race in the world. The "Streif", as it is also known, is a thrilling spectacle and attracts thousands of fans from all parts of the world. This famous and extremely steep slope can be skied down by guests during the normal winter season, but there is a huge range of different, family-friendly slopes as well. The wide range of difficulties make this ski resort suitable for beginners, advanced, as well as professional skiers and snowboarders.
Of course, skiing and snowboarding isn't the only fun to be had in this region. There are plenty of activities to enjoy such as snowshoe hiking, cross-country skiing, winter walking, ski mountaineering, ice-skating, curling at the Schwarzsee lake, tobogganing, riding, and relaxing and swimming at the indoor swimming pool Aquarena in the centre of town.
During summer, the spectacular alpine setting is the ideal destination for hikers and mountain bikers. With many different mountains to choose from, the marked hiking trails, via ferrata, and bike paths at different levels of difficulty offer a fantastic day in the mountains no matter how fit you are. The 3S ski lift connects the Hahnenkamm with the neighbouring town of Jochberg and runs throughout the year. It is known to be the highest lift in the world, measuring 400 metres to the ground. Another popular activity during summer is golf. With 4 golf courses in Kitzbühel, and another 30 courses in a 100-kilometre radius, this area is known to be the golf-centre of the Alps. On hot summer days, the lake Schwarzsee is ideal for a refreshing dip in the cool water. It is located between Kitzbühel and Reith and is known to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alps.
