It is compulsory to buy a valid "vignette", which is a motorway toll sticker, before diving your car on the Austrian motorway. The sticker can be bought at service stations, national borders, auto-clubs, or specialist sellers at the border control before entering into Austria. Please take care to ensure the sticker is correctly placed on the front windscreen of your car. The "vignette" can be purchased for 10 days, 2 months, or one year according to your requirements.

Winter equipment compulsory during the cold season
From November until April it is a requirement for all vehicles on Austrian roads to carry winter equipment suitable for all possible weather related circumstances. Snow tyres are compulsory and are detrimental for your own safety, and for the safety of others. In addition to snow tyres, you may also be required to carry snow chains, especially if you are planning to travel to regions at higher elevations.
